Microanalysis of manga comics

Microanalysis of manga comics is a work that compiles the results of research conducted for educational and study purposes on the use of screentones, grayscale scales, and various strokes in manga comics over 40 years. It has transformed into a catalog showcasing mesmerizing images that might appear as anything when flipping through manga pages, but under the lens of a microscope, they become unexplored worlds and also, a really good place to look for inspiration and tools for your own work.

This catalog guides the reader through a closer look at the ink distributed on the pages of four manga books: “Banana Fish” (1985), “Inuyasha” (1996), “Tokio Ghoul-Re” (2016) and “Beastars” (2019); from the authors Akimi Yoshida, Rumiko Takahashi, Sui Ishida and Paru Itagaki respectively, they have been selected based on their publication year, with the objective of providing a detailed analysis of the illustration techniques from nearly 40 years ago in comparison with the technology based techniques that you can find in the most recent works.

This download come with one file in Spanish, one in English, and an EXTRAS pdf, which contains concept and development sketches, as well as pictures BTS - complete with annotations about design choices and other fun stuff!

Micro-análisis del cómic manga es un trabajo que recopila los resultados de una investigación realizada con un fin didáctico y de estudio del uso de los tramados, escalas de grises y los distintos trazos en los cómics manga a lo largo de 40 años, transformándose ahora en un catálogo que muestra imágenes hipnotizantes, que podría parecer cualquier cosa al pasar las páginas de un manga, pero al lente de un microscopio se convierten en mundos inexplorados y además de ser un excelente lugar para buscar inspiración y herramientas para tu propio trabajo.

 Este catálogo lleva al espectador a dar un vistazo más cercano a la tinta distribuida sobre las páginas de cuatro mangas: "Banana Fish" (1985), "Inuyasha" (1996), "Tokyo Ghoul-Re" (2016) y "Beastars" (2019); de los autores Akimi Yoshida, Rumiko Takahashi, Sui Ishida y Paru Itagaki respectivamente, han sido seleccionados en base a sus fechas de publicación; la finalidad, realizar un análisis detallado de las técnicas de ilustración de hace casi 40 años en comparación a la tecnología que abunda en las técnicas más recientes.

Esta descarga viene con un archivo en español, uno en inglés y un  PDF de EXTRAS, que incluye bocetos de concepto y desarrollo, así como fotos detrás de escenas, completas con anotaciones sobre decisiones de diseño y otros detalles divertidos.
